THE VALUE OF MARTIAL ARTS – 1

We’ve long said – “there’s more to Martial Arts then just kicking and punching”. If you’ve visited our school before, you may have noticed a sign that lists 14 Life Skills of Martial Arts – as seen by us. Over the next few weeks we’ll discuss these Life Skills and their importance to the individual, the family, and the community.

Number 1: FOCUS

Being FOCUSED is such an important thing, especially for children growing up now. With technological advancements, social media and a range of multimedia devices, individuals tend to jump from one thing to the next. If they want to watch a show they can stream it. If they want to send an email to someone they can do so at a touch of a button – and receive a reply within seconds. Gone are the days of sending letters through the mail (snail mail), or sitting through commercial breaks when watching tv shows – if you want something, you can pretty much get it right away.

We are all guilty of demanding and seeking instant feedback. Whether it be in the form of games, tv and movies and/or social media. Advancements in technology have spoilt us and made us greedy for more. Because of this, we tend to jump from one thing to another. We’ll start with one thing, see something shiny, and the move to the next.

✅Martial Arts on the other hand requires FOCUS.
🥋Individuals focus on their ability, their knowledge and their training with the goal of improving.
🥋They listen to instruction and follow direction, without doing this progress can not be made.
🥋By being focused, those who learn Martial Arts improve. Those who lack focus take the longer journey towards progress.
