A Timeline of Fitness Programs

Apart from the Martial Art programs we offer at JAI, we have run a variety of Fitness based programs since the mid 90’s. These programs have been used as an add on for those who already train, and have given many parents the opportunity to jump on the mats and train with us too. Below is a timeline of the 3 Fitness Programs we have offered at JAI Martial Arts, lets take a look back at some history.

KICKFIT: In 1997, Grandmaster Joe launched KICKFIT. A high energy class that combined Kickboxing, Low Resistance Training, and Bodyweight Training. These 60 minute classes used the portable bags (slam bags – we still have a few at the school) for the kickboxing component, and then Medicine Balls and Dumbbells for the Resistance components. KICKFIT ran Tuesday and Thursday nights after 8pm, and Thursday mornings after school drop off. By 2009 the program would stop running, however we have seen KICKFIT come back – sort of – in our Thursday night Senior Taekwondo Class. This class has fast become one of the more popular Taekwondo nights.

JAI FIT: Master Chris launched JAI FIT in 2011 after returning from America. While attending the Martial Arts Supershow he was inspired to bring back a regular fitness based program back to our weekly timetable. JAI FIT would soon become our Saturday afternoon program before moving to the permanent fixture in our School Holiday Schedule. These highly popular classes feature High Intensity Interval Training, Resistance Training and Circuit Training. With a variety of different workouts – TABATA, Circuits, Hybrid and more – the classes are always changing. JAI FIT returns every School Holiday period – much to the delight of the JAI FIT faithful!

MTF: With the success of JAI FIT and our regular Muay Thai Classes, Master Chris worked on a new Fitness Based Program. By combining the two programs he came up with MTF – Muay Thai Fit. This class runs every Saturday morning during the School Term and focuses on basic Muay Thai and Kickboxing movements combined with Resistance Training. Originally the program was partner based before moving to what it is now – the class is split into 2 groups with one group working Resistance Based exercises and the other group working Muay Thai techniques on the bags (side note: MTF has fast become a popular program for the JAI mums!).

Both our JAI FIT and MTF classes are great options for students already enrolled in our Martial Art programs, and for parents looking to get into something different. Classes are suitable to all fitness levels as you work at your own pace throughout the session. Each workout is designed to assist in weight loss, improve muscle strength and tone, and release the feel good hormones improving your mood and overall health and wellbeing.
