THE VALUE OF MARTIAL ARTS – 6

Today we continue the discussion about Martial Arts Life Skills, and their importance to the individual, family and community.

Number 6: ATTITUDE

When given a task, the ATTITUDE you take towards the task will decide how well – or poorly – you’ll complete it. Let’s consider this, you ask your child to clean their room. They roll their eyes and groan – you already know its not getting done properly. Now on the other hand, if your child said “ok I’ll do it now” (highly unlikely!), you get the sense that it will be done reasonably well.

In Martial Arts – and in life – we’ll always be tasked with completing things that we don’t want to do. BUT, through DISCIPLINE (another Life Skill) we understand that we still need to get that task done – whether we want to or not. We may not want to run those extra laps during our Kick and Run Conditioning, we may not want to complete our monthly Sparring Lessons, but we understand that these tasks need to be completed for the development of or skills, and to take forward steps towards our next grading.

Changing our thoughts and ATTITUDE through Martial Arts by looking for the Positive, focusing on the GOOD, and being DISCIPLINED to know that the task needs to be done – whether we want to do it or not.
